What does X42 Pipe mean ?

API 5L X42 Seamless Pipe is one of the most popular and running grades in all API 5L Grades from API 5L B to X100. This is cost-effective and durable for all Oil and Gas pipelines, It also used in power generation plants, oil refineries, sour service, and off-shore piping projects. API 5l X42 Type PSL2 must define following if Rolled should mark R, If API 5L X42 PSL2 is required thermomechanical rolled it should mark M, if PSL1 Material is required Normalizing formed should mark N and if quenched or tempered is required so it should mark Q, that's why L290 material always marked either R or M/N/Q. It is more important to know the yield strength of API SEPCS 5L X42 before buying because it may cause an accident if we don't choose proper Yield Strength depends upon application and condition. Grade X42 Yield Strength is 42100 Psi, 290 Mpa that's why it is known as L290. Tensile strength of X42 steel pipe is higher than API 5L B, it is almost 6600 Psi (45 Mpa) higher compare to Grade b pipe.
